One of the quirky aspects of the brand new Big Brother Australia household is the kitchen. Or, that is the lack of one. This year Big Brother removed the kitchen altogether and replaced it with a food conveyor belt. Big Brother will prepare all the food this year. When a certain meal is ready a food alarm will sound and the houseguests will have a few seconds to reach the conveyor belt and grab their plates. But, if the houseguests are not there in time their meals will fall off the ledge of the table and unto the floor.
The official Big Brother Australia website descibes what happened when the food conveyor belt was used for the first time this year:
As lunch time approached and tummies rumbled, Big Brother’s serving scheme was set into motion.
Housemates’ lunch churned out down the conveyor belt and with no one there to catch it, bowls of soup smashed all over the floor.
Although Big Brother announced that lunch was served, the obviously sated Housemates were in no rush to get to the table. Little did they know the conveyor belt kept turning as bowl after bowl of soup was splashed all over the dining room floor.
Renee was first to discover that lunch was falling to a tragic fate at the end of the table. “Oh shit!” she exclaimed, scrambling to save what she could of the food.
