An Australian Newspaper named the Sunday Telegraph has pronounced that Big Brother will have a timely death after this season finishes. The paper says that the ratings have been dismal compared to season’s past. It even says that the ratings are so bad it was beaten by a politician reading Australian proposed budget on a competitor station.
The sources who were quoted in the article say that the departure of former host Gretal Killeen have added to the decline in ratings. Apparently, in Australia, Gretal was a spitfire to the contestants. “Kyle and Jackie O just don’t serve the same purpose. Jackie is quite limp and Kyle prides himself on being wrong – he will always say the wrong, obnoxious thing and hurt people.” said a professor of film and television.
They also blame the ratings decline on the “extreme casting” in which people from different walks of life were put into the house. A former contestant said, “A quarter of the people in there you are unlikely to meet in a normal situation.”
Is this the end of Big Brother in Australia?
I don’t think so.
